Educational support

Aider pays school fees and buys educational supplies (books, stationary, backpacks) for children in school and college, ages 6-21. These children are marginalized, from the lower-caste, and orphans or semi-orphans and cannot afford the cost of education.  Without Aider’s help they often drop-out of school and never complete their education.

Sewing and tailoring school for adolescent girls

Aider has established sewing centers in the villages of Villiunur and Dindivanam to teach young women how to make and tailor clothes.  We offer a 6-month training program and help with job-placement at tailoring companies.  In addition to paying certification fees, Aider helps young women with financial support and sewing supplies to start their own businesses.

Mobile Library

Our mobile library visits various villages throughout Pondicherry, offering under-privileged children access to books and artistic activities.  We teach drawing, art, theater, and dancing.  These programs bring joy to the children and help them develop a passion for learning, creativity, culture, and art.

Training program for adolescent boys

Aider supports adolescent boys that are not pursuing a formal education, by helping them to learn a trade and gain employment.  We pay for the fees for boys to obtain certificates in driving commercial vehicles, work as a carpenter, or become an electrician.

Holiday Celebrations

Holidays can be a difficult time for under-privileged children.  Their school friends celebrate with sweets, gifts, new clothes, tasty food, and festivities.  Aider brings joy and love to the village children by organizing local celebrations for Christmas, Diwali, and all the major holidays.

Nutritional support

Aider provides malnourished children with nutritional grains. Children are taken for regular doctor visits and the doctor prescribes a 6-month plan to restore the nutrition to healthy levels. Currently, we support 40 children, ages 1-6 years old, with this program.

Computer Center with spoken English

Aider is developing a computer center where under-privelaged children can enroll in a 6-month course to learn keyboard typing, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and e-mail.  Courses are taught in English and help students gain necessary skills for education and employment.

Sports Club

Aider provides village children with sports equipment to entertain them on weekends and holidays.  These fun activities promote healthy exercise, socialization, and team-work.  Children enjoy playing with cricket, football, volleyball, and badminton equipment that Aider provides.
